Weddings
The British Humanist Association has a page on weddings and partnerhips, and organises the UK network of accredited wedding celebrants.
Gay or lesbian couples who wish to celebrate their commitment in the presence of family or friends may want an affirmation ceremony. The Pink Triangle Trust provides more information about Affirmations.
Sheffield Humanists also have a list of local people who we are willing to recommend as officiants. Contact the Society secretary or email ceremonies@sheffieldhumanists.org.uk.
If you want your wedding to be legally recognised, it is necessary to attend a Register Office. You can do this before or after any secular or humanist ceremony you have. Gay or lesbian partnerships can have their relationships legally recognised as ‘civil partnerships’. (See the government web site.)
A practical guide to humanist and non-religious weddings and affirmations can be ordered from the British Humanist Association: Sharing the Future by Jayne Wynne Willson.
